SCALA™ Management cordially invites you to join us , as creators for our amazing sales event – YIN/YANG 2017
This outstanding event depicts from the concept of wholeness: yin and yang – quite a complex concept in Chinese Philosophy (thus interesting, from the perspective of a creative person).
Taking into consideration that Second Life© is a world created by us, the residents, we would love to challenge all SL creators, designers, furniture and house makers, all artistic minds to come together with us, every month and provide SL residents with one of a kind creative pieces, clothes, shoes, skins, poses, houses. Whatever you heart screams to create, here is the space to show it and share your work. And yes, it can be a photo, a piece of art.
Yin and yang are both loanwords – not being originally English, they are now adapted as words with their meaning.
So, this is how Oxford English Dictionary defines these two words:
yin (jɪn) Also Yin, Yn. [Chinese yīn shade, feminine; the moon.]
a. In Chinese philosophy, the feminine or negative principle (characterized by dark, wetness, cold, passivity, disintegration, etc.) of the two opposing cosmic forces into which creative energy divides and whose fusion in physical matter brings the phenomenal world into being. Also attrib. or as adj., and transf. Cf. yang.
b. Comb., as yin-yang, the combination or fusion of the two cosmic forces; freq. attrib., esp. as yin-yang symbol, a circle divided by an S-shaped line into a dark and a light segment, representing respectively yin and yang, each containing a ‘seed’ of the other.
yang (jæŋ) Also Yang. [Chinese yáng yang, sun, positive, male genitals.]
a. In Chinese philosophy, the masculine or positive principle (characterized by light, warmth, dryness, activity, etc.) of the two opposing cosmic forces into which creative energy divides and whose fusion in physical matter brings the phenomenal world into being. Also attrib. or as adj. Cf. yin.
b. Comb.: yang-yin = yin-yang s.v. yin b.
From here on, a creator can just fly away and play with both definitions, more complex or less complex, as they please.
And this was the challenge SCALA sent out to all creators in SL.
Coming from a starting definition: Yin / Yang : two halves that together complete wholeness.
Yin and Yang are also the starting point for change. When something is whole, by definition it is unchanging and complete. So when you split something into two halves – yin / yang, it upsets the equilibrium of wholeness.
This starts both halves chasing after each other as they seek a new balance with each other.
YIN/YANG event will continue, each month with another round of creative and infinite possibilities by feeling this movement of life, that is feminine/masculine; black/white; two opposites that don’t fight. They complete each other.
Here, balance begins… or maybe not.
