SCALA™ Models Academy – Spring/Summer 2017 Graduates

Warm weather, green leaves and here is another season in full bloom.
At SCALA™ Models Academy, new trainees have just graduated in an outstanding fashion showcase sponsored by GHEE and United Colors.

This group of graduates was somewhat special, because among them, we had some trainees that had never walked on a runway before, it was their first approach of what being a model in SL entails, the organization and stress before a fashion showcase and also how fast and prepared a SL model needs to be. In RL, a model can’t be backstage and doing something else other than prepare for that particular show.
In SL, most people find it difficult to understand that we, at SCALA, see no difference and just because we are preparing for a fashion show in SL and this is a “game”, when models are backstage waiting for their turn, they can just leave their pcs or laptops and go take care of their RLs. This is not acceptable.

At SCALA, we teach – and we are adamant about it – that before a show, backstage, even if the model is just waiting for their turn to walk, they are expected to be present, not “playing a game” and surely not afk. These simple guidelines are taught right at the beginning of the course – Classes 101 and 102. For us that is the difference between a “SL model” and a “SL professional model“.
It was interesting for the trainees that had never walked in a fashion showcase before, to see how we work at SCALA and a preview of what they can expect in the modeling scene in SL. Actually, this is why we teach the way we teach and how seriously we take our jobs training SL models to be able to endure their jobs in their future careers.

“My experience training at SCALA™ Models Academy has been really exciting, since the day I started with class 101, I knew it was going to be a very interesting course, I have adjusted the knowledge that I have already learned.
It has been like fresh air for my career as a model, as in my career as creator of poses and animations, it has been a very productive course and I totally recommend it.”

“The first thing that impressed me was that there was a group of us in class and not just one or two. Going through the program with fellow models was very beneficial and made it more enjoyable. All of the instructors were very informative and receptive to questions. Sometimes discussions continued after class which showed me that they are really invested in the program. Overall i would recommend this program very highly. It is worth every linden.”

“Coming to SCALA was a no brainer to me. I had gone to AVENUE years ago and away from modeling due to going through breast cancer. It was nice to have some of the same teachers that I know and respect from my previous modeling experience.
SCALA gives you a balanced experience from beginning to end on pretty much everything you need to know to be successful in modeling. They offer a weekly and weekend classes which is good since I work full time in real life. They were accomodating to your RL within reason. Modeling is a serious business so when you start this you need to know there is no slacking allowed, so they let you know to plan for that. If I were to think of things to add to make it better I would say to add mesh classes on tips and tricks to handling mesh. I would also add in general more tips in tricks for runway and turns. I would spend more time in checking poses and styling to help folks know what to look for and reject. One thing I learned myself was to make copies of my mesh HUDs per outfit so I can stop the fiddling between outfits…it would be good to learn things like this. I think because so many models are in these classes that it is forgotten to help the newbies more. Other than that I was good. I still find runway stressful but I know in time that will be better. It was for me first time.”

“My experience training at SCALA Models Academy was amazing. The instructors were very knowledgeable in the field and the classes super fun. Even though I have attended modeling academies in SL before, and I am currently an active model, I learned a lot of new things at SCALA which will allow me to take my modeling career to a higher level. I highly recommend this academy to anyone looking to launch an SL modeling career.”

“My experience training at SCALA™ Models Academy was a major change in how I view to become successful in this industry. My training and guidance from my SCALA instructors encouraged me to step out of my comfort zone and explore the aesthetics aspect of modeling. My teachers allowed me to re-invent myself as a professional model by instilling that in order to be successful in this industry, pixel perfection is not necessarily the utmost requirement, but presenting professionalism demeanor and showing team work to potential employers are vital necessities to possess.
My blogging class with Carley Bennazai truly improved my skills as a blogger. Carley stressed that a professional model in Second Life should be well-rounded which includes the use of blogging on all forms of social media in order to be recognized. Before this class, I was not a fan of blogging and honestly avoided it as much as possible. However, after Carley’s class, I blog on a daily basis. I was taught that blogging can be enjoyable if you allow it to be rather than a “chore”.
Lastly, my pose and runway classes were subjects I had to get a good grasp on. Due to low self-confidence, i was a bit hesitant. However, with the encouragement of my teachers, I felt that I could do any runway and provide poses without hesitation and/or fear. The instruction and tips provided, eased my fears and anxieties tremendously. Today, i feel that I can walk amongst the most well-known and revered Second Life© models.
As I have mentioned during the first day of class, SCALA is the “Harvard or Oxford University” in Second Life©. A graduate of SCALA, will always be proud to say to others “I am SCALA”.”

” My son SL, who is a model [Tadeu Gartner], encouraged me to do the same academy he had done and introduced me to SCALA. It was a fantastic experience, 3 months of coexistence with teachers of the highest level who gave me a new vision in the art of modeling. Respect is seriousness, respect and friendship.
Thank you my dear ones, you are the best!”

It was such a great pleasure for all instructors to work with all of you, see you all find who each of you is, as a SL model, go out of your comfort zones and dare to be one of a kind.
We wish you all the best in your future endeavours!
